In our lab courses, we use Microsoft Excel and the Regression tool in its Data Analysis Toolpak quite a bit. In our lab courses, we use Microsoft Excel and the Regression tool in its Data Analysis Toolpak quite a bit. When one of these students came to see me the other day for help with this and we discovered this problem with StatPlus, I suggested that he might try using OpenOffice. Posted: (1 day ago) StatPlus:mac LE is fully compatible with Excel 20042019 and is the Microsoft recommended replacement of its own Analysis Toolpak module. But the point is that it is not straightforward.Excel For Mac Analysis Toolpak Download See more all of the best online courses on Courses. For example, it might be that only the digits displayed in the spreadsheet cells are used instead of including the ones that might be hidden due to rounding to fit into the cell. This might have to do with the way the information is input. This does produce an output similar to the regression tool from the Analysis Toolpak, but the results are not the same. I am not a software developer, so I can't contribute to this effort other than by making the suggestion. Many Mac users might well migrate to OpenOffice over the MS versions if that happened. You (and others at the university) get the regression analysis that you want, the students gain valuable real-world experience with software development and mathematics, the university gains prestige as a contributor to Open Office, and OOo gains a valuable extension.Of course this doesn't help you in the short term, but it doesn't appear that there are any short term solutions anyway. I think it would be a win-win-win-win situation for everyone. Why not collaborate with the Computer Science department and the Statistics department and find a student (or students) with the right skills to develop an extension for Calc to provide the functionality that you need? Or perhaps develop this as a one-time seminar? I guarantee that the student(s) who write this will learn a great deal about programming and about statistics, possibly about physics, in this endeavor. From what you say and considering that it is on some 'to do' list, your point is a valid one. I think this would be more easily accomplished if the same or similar functionalities were included in the OO programs that serve a particular purpose as is in the MS Office programs that serve the same purpose. This forum is the wrong place to make an enhancement request. Broadening the user base is presumably a goal of the organization responsible for OpenOffice. See my posting in the Impress forum for another example (sorry, I don't know how to include a direct link to it). I imagine that with some fiddling around, even StatPlus will give the same output as Excel (see my original post if you don't know what I'm referring to). This is not the only place where there is missing functionality in MS Office for Mac and OO compared to MS Office for Windows. Referring to the 'to do' list would add considerable weight to your request. There is a tutorial on the Tutorials board about file a 'bug' report or enhancement request.SparkyTech wrote:DoctorJah, I've been promoting StarOffice and OpenOffice for years, but as you've seen with this particular bunch, their ability to grasp that: user requests = more users = more resources = thriving community, is just something they can't grok yet. If no issue has been filed, you can file one. If you register with the site, you can add comments to and vote for any existing request. You may find that the request has already been made. I don't know if it fixes other deficiencies in the Mac versions, such as Mac PowerPoint's inability to open password-protected PPT files as read only. So that doesn't seem to be a problem, except they have to get the newer versions. It turns out that more recent versions of Excel for Mac have Data Analysis, according to one of the students whose older versions did not. You are right that we can get MS Office cheaply. Android marketplace with vendors there building/adding to the forked code), MS is so desperate to get Office into user hands, you'll be able to get licences essentially for free, (have your IT guy check with the MS rep.).Thanks. Besides their window closing very quickly, (i.e. Data Analysis Toolpak In Excel Plus Several OtherIt has strong data typing and data files are separate from analysis so you don't accidentally select the wrong column of data or overwrite some of it.If I remember correctly it also will do a lot more than the Excel Analysis Pack and features some excellent graphics for Exploratory Data Analysis and for regression diagnostics.Oh yes. It documents your code so that you can retrace your analysis or save the steps for later analysis. For instance, you are using R—which has good stats algorithms and programming rather than wonky Excel mistakes. I have never used RStudio but I have played around with R Commander.R Commander has an ease-of-use superior to a spreadsheet (for stats) plus several other advantages over spreadsheets. R , just out of the box, is not exactly user-friendly but it does have some GUI interfaces notably R Commander or RStudio.
